The Reunion of the Founding Sisters and Alumni of St. Therese of the Little Flower Orphanage
Five St. Therese Sisters founded the St. Therese of the Little Flower Orphanage in response to genocide in Burundi. In the years that followed, the Sisters missionary assignments took them in different directions, and they never had the opportunity to reunite or reflect on what they had lived through—until this past year. For the fist time, three from the original group of Sisters returned together to the STLF Orphanage in Burundi to reunite with one another and with the now-grown children they once cared for. The three returning Sisters included Sr. Primitiva Emilia, STH, Sr. Pudentiana Bakera, STH, and Sr. Pudentiana Kirungo, STH. Sr. Revocata Kokumalamala, STH, is no longer physically able to travel and Sr. Beatrice Nyamichow, STH, passed away in 2011. The photo also includes Sr. Delphina Kokuzanisa, STH, Headmistress of the Orphanage for the past 17 years.
As Sr. Pudentinana Kirungo Mushumbushi, STH shared:
“It was overwhelming reviving the past memories.”
