Organization Formation
In the fall of 2005, Sr. Pudentiana Kirungo Mushumbusi, STH, a Catholic missionary nun, spoke at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Tampa, Florida about her orphanage in Burundi, Africa. The St. Therese of the Little Flower Orphanage was founded in response to the tremendous number of children impacted by genocide. Thousands of children were left orphaned, starved, homeless and emotionally scarred. Sr. Pudentiana's compelling story inspired the creation and implementation of a sponsorship program for the children at the orphanage.
The success of the child sponsorship program led to the formation of St. Therese of the Little Flower World Mission, Inc. (STLFWM), an Internal Revenue Service designated 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization in the state of Florida. Formed in 2008, STLFWM is dedicated to serving orphaned and impoverished children in Africa by funding Catholic missionary projects. Missionary projects are carried out by the Sisters of St. Therese of the Child Jesus of the Catholic Diocese in Bukoba, Tanzania.
