St. Therese of Avila Catechetical Formation Center (STACFC)
The STACF Center founded in 2007 is located in Bukoba, Tanzania. The Center provides spiritual formation for young women aspiring to become Sisters of St Therese of the Child Jesus. Spiritual formation is the process of discernment before making a lifetime commitment to a particular religious order. The Center provides boarding, classes, special programs, pilgrimages, and retreats. The number of young women entering has recently grown dramatically from 6 to 56. Catholic Sisters commit their lives to spiritual growth and service to others. They play crucial roles in the community in education, healthcare, social services and more. As role models of faith and dedication, Sisters continue to inspire others to live out their Christian faith. Their influence makes a positive difference in the world. Please consider a donation to help support the development of new St. Therese Sisters at the STACF Center.
The Stages of Religious Formation:
Candidate/Postulant
Young women who aspire to become St. Therese of the Child Jesus Sisters mark their official entry into the Order as Candidates. Upon successful completion of the initial year, Candidates become Postulants for one year. This period is a time for learning a new way to live and pray, taking classes to learn more about the Order and religious life, and participating in the apostolic works of the Order.
Novitiate
After a successful postulancy, Postulants become Novitiates. This two year period encompasses preparation to live a vowed life, including deepening one’s knowledge of the Order’s charism and spirituality, and deepening one’s understanding of the counsels of poverty, chastity and obedience.
Temporary Vows
Temporary vows are made at the end of the novitiate and initiate an eight-year period of mutual discernment. Spiritual formation continues with learning more about the Order, including which skills are needed to become a member, and participating more deeply in the life of the community. This period is marked by a solid relationship with God and clarity for one’s vocation.
Perpetual Vows/ Solemn Profession
Solemn profession is a public declaration of one’s commitment and intention to give oneself completely to God and to serve others through the specific charism of the Order.
