Meet the Team
Pudentiana Kirungo Mushumbusi, STH
Founder of St. Therese of the Little Flower Orphanage (STLFO), Burundi and Divine Mercy Girls Seminary (DMGS), Tanzania
As a young child, Sr. Pudentiana attended daily Mass with her brother at the Rubya Parish in Bukoba, Tanzania. There she witnessed African nuns singing glorious songs while being surrounded by kindergarten children. By the time she reached the age of four.
Sr. Pudentiana knew she wanted to be a St. Therese Sister.
At age nine, Sr. Pudentiana ran off to the convent to join the nuns. That evening, her father found her at the convent. On the journey home he said: "But that is not the right way to go about it."
When Sr. Pudentiana was twelve years old, she left home despite her mother's protest. She traveled 195 kilometers to attend a boarding school for girls who wished to join the religious order. It would be two years before her mother could visit her and share how much she admired what was in her daughter's heart.
Sr. Pudentiana made her first vows at age seventeen, thus beginning her vocation and journey of helping others.
In 1996, she founded the St. Therese of the Little Flower Orphanage in Burundi, Africa.
Sr. Pudentiana went on to serve her order as Superior General from October 29, 2009 until November 15, 2015.
In 2014, she founded Divine Mercy Girls Seminary, a Catholic secondary boarding school in Tanzania. To this day, Sister continues to be devoted to her missionary work.
